MDCAN made the commendation in a statement, signed by its President, Dr. Steven Oluwole, at the end of its Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, at the weekend.
The group therefore called on the government to provide better protection for the health personnel in the forefront of the fight against the disease.
MDCAN, however, said that considering the measures being taken by the government in an effort to contain the disease, there was no need for the closure of the country’s border and grounding of flights.
It said greater priority should be given to protection of hospital staff that are caring for Ebola Disease patients.
The statement further advised communities to co-operate with the government to locate treatment centres in any area of choice by the ministries of health.
It would be recalled that since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the country, only primary contacts to the index case has been infected.
However, on Friday, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, announced that for the first time, Nigeria has recorded two cases of Ebola from secondary contacts.
“Nigeria has now recorded the first two cases of Ebola Virus Disease in secondary contacts of the index case, the Liberian-American.
“The two patients are spouses of primary contacts of the Liberian-American. They are among the secondary contacts that have been under surveillance.
“This now brings to four the total number of Ebola Virus Disease patients currently under treatment at the isolation ward.
