In October 2013 “His Excellency Sheikh Professor Doctor President” Yahya Jammeh of Gambia announced the withdrawal of his country from “the British Commonwealth”, claiming that the organization is a “neo-colonial institution”. Barring the Republic of Ireland which withdrew for constitutional reasons, South Africa during the heydays of Apartheid and Zimbabwe in 2003, the trend has been for countries to remain within the warmth of the Commonwealth family. Nigeria was suspended in December 1995, but was reinstated when democracy was restored in May 1999.

Keshi not good enough for Nigeria - Babayaro

Former Nigerian international Emmanuel Babayaro has said that Stephen Keshi is not the right person to coach the Super Eagles as he picks his team with sentiments.

Babayaro believes that Keshi manages the Super Eagles team with sentiments, and does not hand invitations to the right players.

80million Nigerians without electricity - UN

The United Nations (UN) has said 600 million Africans are without access to electricity.

Out of this figure, between 70 million and 80 million of them are Nigerians.

Kandeh Yumkela, the under secretary general and special representative of the secretary general of the UN, disclosed this on Monday at the International Legacy Lecture Series held at the Bamanga Tukur African Renaissance Centre, Abuja.

Adamawa: Boko Haram Abducts Women, Children

Boko haram has allegedly kidnapped over 50 women and an undisclosed number of children from Michika and Gulak communities in Adamawa State.

THIS DAY reported that a resident of Gulak, who escaped from the area, said that at least 50 young women were seized by the insurgents from Gulak town on Saturday after the victims were assembled at a prayer ground.

Amongst the women kidnapped were several married women and mothers.

The Nigerian army is yet to issue an official statement about this latest abduction.
