Kosovo Court Jailes Two Persons for Prostituting Women

A court in Kosovo jailed two persons for more than seven years in total for facilitating and compelling the prostitution of several women.
The EU rule-of-law mission to Kosovo, EULEX, said Elmi Kastrati and Besnik Kastrati had been convicted for having “facilitated the prostitution of a number of Serbian women and compelled the prostitution of one Albanian woman”. EULEX said that the events that took place in Hotel Troja, Pristina, between February and April 2012. Elmi Kastrati was found guilty of compelling and facilitating prostitution and possession of narcotic drugs and was jailed for five-and-a-half years and fined 1,500 euro. Besnik Kastrati was jailed for a year and ten months. Earlier stage in the trial, two other accused, Faton Berisha and Nexhad Beiqi, entered plea agreements and one further accused, Albert Krasniqi, pleaded guilty. All three were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.
