No Plan to Review Traffic Law on Okada Operation in Lagos

The Lagos State Government Sunday debunked insinuations, especially in the social media, of a plan to review the State’s Road Traffic Law 2012 as it concerns operations of commercial motorcycles (Okada) saying it has no intention of reversing itself on the matter as the Law was made in response to popular public demand.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Raji, the Government emphasized that it has no plans, either now on in the near future, to reverse itself on the matter of Okada operation in the State pointing out that by that decision considerable gains have been made in the area of protection of life and property in the State.

MDCAN Hails FG Over Fight Against Ebola

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), has commended the Federal Government’s proactive and prompt response to the Ebola virus disease outbreak in the country.
MDCAN made the commendation in a statement, signed by its President, Dr. Steven Oluwole, at the end of its Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, at the weekend.
The group therefore called on the government to provide better protection for the health personnel in the forefront of the fight against the disease.
MDCAN, however, said that considering the measures being taken by the government in an effort to contain the disease, there was no need for the closure of the country’s border and grounding of flights.

Immigration Needs 25,000 New Recruits - Paradang

Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (CGI), David Paradang, has said the NIS urgently needs to engage minimum of 5,000 new officers yearly for the next fives years to be able to meet manpower deficit facing the paramilitary service.
Recruitment of about 4,000 personnel into the service last April ran into major hitch, resulting in stampede and death of about 16 persons across the country.
Paradang reiterated that NIS staff strength of 22,321 was grossly inadequate to meet statutory obligation of the service, contain irregular migrants and meaningfully contribute its quota in the battle against insurgents and organized crimes across the nation’s 1,475 uncharted borders.

British Baby Shocks Medical Profession by Learning to Feed Herself at Just THREE DAYS old

Glugging milk from a bottle, Amara Chiedozie looks like any other contented three-week-old. Except, that is, for the fact she is already capable of holding the container on her own. Even more incredibly, her mother claims she has been doing it since she was three days old. The strength of her grip at such a tender age has amazed her family and medics. Her mother Onyi Chiedozie, 20, said:

Pope Francis Speaks On Death & Retirement

Pope Francis has publicly broached the prospect of his own death for the first time, light-heartedly giving himself "two or three years" but not ruling out retirement before then. The 77-year old pontiff while addressing reporters on a flight back to the Vatican from South Korea, said
"I try to think of my sins, my mistakes, not to become proud. Because I know it will last only a short time. Two or three years and then I'll be off to the Father's house," he said.

Falconets Crush New Zealand to Qualify for Semi-final

The Falconets have qualified for the semi-final of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, after an emphatic 4-1 win over New Zealad.
Asisat Oshoala opened scoring for the Nigerians as early as the 31st second, converting Ugo Njoku’s fine cross. Oshoala doubled their lead in the 11th minute, squeezing her shot past Lily Alfeld’s legs.
Poor finishing denied the Falconets more goals, until the second-half introduction of Sunday Uchechi.
The substitute made it 3-0 with just six minutes left, before the Kiwis grabbed a consolation goal through Rolston. It was Uchechi who had the final word, with the last goal of the game.
Nigeria will now face Korea DPR in the last four.
The match will be played on August 20 at the Moncton Stadium.
