I have said NO to AlphaBeta based on the principle that it's never in the interest of the State's civil service to continue to rely on consultants 100% of the time.
We must have ways of transferring expertise over time. We must not substitute the role of our Civil Service. I have said NO to the toll on the VI-Lekki-Epe axis because the PPP arrangement has been terminated and this project has been paid for in full and then some. On the issue of the people of Ikorodu, my opponent tends to think that the government has already done "more than enough for the people of Ikorodu". And you call this progressive? Far from it.
Lets talk a bit about the issues:
My dear Lagosians, the era of Tax-and-Spend is old news. It might have worked for 16-years to get us to where we are now, but if we're ever going to be able to leapfrog Lagos to new heights, it wouldn't be on the back of taxing our people to death. We cannot double the size of our economy in 4-years based on taxes. No way. What we need are fresh ideas around new opportunities. As a government, we should be concerned about huge opportunities that can drive the growth of industry and accommodate hundreds of thousands of new hands - opportunities that actualize the economic potential of our state.
Now don't get me wrong, taxes are important and they form the foundation on which a government meets its obligations to its people. But if we're ever going to leapfrog this state, we must begin to think of new frontiers. For example, developing Lagos' Ocean Economy where we make Lagos a Fishing/Processing hub, a logistics hub for Oil & Gas as well as Boat building and maintenance hub for the coast of West Africa.
Mr Ambode, we have not done "more than enough for Ikorodu", not in the least. With renewed focus on the inherent opportunities that exist in our Waters, Ikorodu and Epe can become the new frontier of economic development for our State. And this is a promise I intend to keep when elected. I have said NO to AlphaBeta based on the principle that it's never in the interest of the State's civil service to continue to rely on consultants 100% of the time.
