Nigeria's Golden Eaglets were yesterday beaten 2-1 by Gabon in the first leg of their African Youth Championship qualifiers.
Having passed through an arduous ordeal before getting to Libreville for
the game, the Golden Eaglets only arrived in Gabon a day before the
match.
Initially,Gabon refused to grant the Nigerian team access into their
country but it took the intervention of CAF for them to rescind the
decision.
Victor Osimehn continued with his impressive form for Nigeria in the
qualifiers, hitting in an away goal for the Golden Eagles as early as the
fourth minute.
Gabon found their way back and equalised through Moubouhy Ngouba in the 26th minute.
With Osimhen given the marching order in the 70th minute,Gabon made numerical advantage count and went on to score the winner.
Maomikolo Boundembi got the winner for his team ten minutes before time, giving his side the home win.
“The players have their best under the circumstances that we found
ourselves, especially the difficult travelling arrangement which caused
fatigue. The officiating of the match was poor but we have to put this
behind us and focus on the second leg,” Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel
Amuneke said after the match.
