Lagoon Hospital Lagos Performs First Open Heart Surgery

Lagoon Hospital, in the Apapa area of Lagos state has successfully performed an open-heart surgery on a 59-year-old man, making it the first private hospital in the country to achieve such feat.
The three-hour operation was performed on Friday, July 25, at the ultra-modern operating theatre suites of the hospital by a team of home-based Ni­gerian health practitioners.

The suspect who concealed the drugs in various food items was arrested following the discovery of cannabis inside his bags at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos when he was about to board a Qatar Airline flight.

He is credited with treating more than 100 victims and has previously been hailed as a national hero. Now, hundreds of condolences are pouring in on Twitter, praising his courage and altruism.

Liberian Man With Ebola Virus In Lagos Dies

Mr. Patrick Sawyer, a WASH consultant at the Ministry of Finance, who had been quarantined since falling ill after arriving in the Nigerian state of Lagos for a conference last Sunday, has died, allafrica.com says.

A Liberian government official, speaking on condition of anonymity said the news of Sawyer's death was relayed to Liberia by the Nigerian embassy, early Friday morning.

Nigerian government health authorities announced Thursday that Sawyer, 40 was being tested for the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos. Sawyer's death is the first recorded case of one of the world's deadliest diseases in Nigeria.
