MTN sacks 252 engineers

As a consequence of dwindling revenue, leading Global System of Mobile communications provider in the country, MTN Nigeria, on Monday disengaged 252 of its engineers who were responsible for the operation and maintenance of its base stations nationwide.
Our correspondent gathered that most of the disengaged engineers joined the company at inception in 2001 and were involved in the day-to-day running of MTN’s 10,000 base stations all over the country.
The company had earlier in March explained that it and other operators were facing the challenge of not only stagnating revenues, but also increasing operating expenses.

Female delegate blames women for corruption in Nigeria

Let us tell ourselves the truth, women are the source of the whole problem we have in this country.”
A delegate at the National Conference, Jummai Bello, shocked her colleagues when she lambasted the womenfolk for fuelling corruption in Nigeria.
Ms. Bello, a delegate of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, while contributing to the debate on President Goodluck Jonathan’s inaugural speech, contended that if the women had performed their domestic roles well the nation would not be confronted with the corruption scourge.
She said Nigerian women had failed to give their children proper training and that they encouraged their husbands to engage in corrupt practices.......Read more after the cut....

Yobo Dropped, Odemwingie, IK Uche In As Keshi Reveals 25-Man Provisional Squad For Brazil 2014

Keshi home-based EaglesStephen Keshi has bowed to pressure from fans and the media and included the pair of Osaze Odemwingie and Ikechukwu Uche in his 25-man provisional squad for the World Cup.
The former Togo and Mali boss explained: “Osaze has been in great form for his team in the English Premier League and I had no choice but to bring him back into the fold. Ike Uche and I also had an hour-long conversation over the phone and we have resolved our issues.”
“We have accepted the list of 25 players and they will resume camping for the match in US when preparations are finalised,” Chris Green, Chairman of the Technical Committee, said.
Nigeria will face Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F at the competition.

Apple And Samsung Going Back To Court After Apple Sues For $2 Billion

One of the fiercest rivalries in the world of business is heading back to court this week with Apple seeking $2bn in damages from Samsung for allegedly ripping off designs and features.
The trial in Silicon Valley, California will mark the latest round in a long-running series of lawsuits between the two tech giants as they fight for the multi-billion dollar smartphone market.
The most attention grabbing claim in the case is Apple's demand that market leader Samsung, which sold one in three of all smartphones last year, pay a $40 royalty for each device running software allegedly conceived by Apple. That is more than five times more than the amount sought in the previous trial and well above other precedents between smartphone companies.
If Apple prevails, the costs to Samsung could reach $2 billion. Apple's costs, if it lost, are expected to be about $6 million.
The other new twist in the case is that Samsung hope to draw Google into the battle by calling the engineers who designed the search giant's Android system - which is used by Samsung's phones – to give evidenceexplaining how they built it independently of Apple ........
