An intriguing Letter to the Editor was published in The Guardian of last week Tuesday, August 26th in which the author, one Kehinde Olalemi, from Ibadan, Oyo State made an arresting attempt to apologise to Prof. Keye Abiona, a don in the University of Ibadan. His reason was that he cited errors in the Professor’s publications and had the audacity to draw the man’s attention to the purported blunders.

One in 10 girls sexually abused, says UN report- BBC

About 120 million girls around the world - slightly more than one in 10 - have been raped or sexually assaulted by the age of 20, a UN report says.

The children's agency Unicef also says 95,000 children and teenagers - most of them in Latin America and the Caribbean - were murdered in 2012 alone.

It notes that children around the globe are routinely exposed to violence, including bullying.

The document draws on data from 190 countries.

Ebola: Kaduna banks begin screening of customers.

Some commercial banks in Kaduna on Wednesday commenced screening of customers for Ebola virus before they were allowed entry into the banking halls for any transaction.

Although bank officials declined to speak on the development at a famous new generation bank near the Murtala Square, Kaduna, a security officer who was using a gadget to test the body temperature of customers at the entrance said any one whose body temperature was over 40 would be asked to go back.

EBOLA: Nigerian wrestlers and officials banned from world championship in Uzbekistan

The Nigerian Wrestling team have been denied access from taking part in the 2014 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Uzbekistan because of reported cases of the dreaded Ebola Virus in the country.

Uzbekistan through the International Wrestling Federation(FILA) told Nigeria that they will not take part in the forthcoming championship,because they could be a possible threat to others.

Nigeria alongside Sierra Leone and two other African countries were barred from participating,with fears that the wrestlers could be carriers of the virus.

Radical fundamentalists are on the march under the banner of Jihad in Nigeria, Mali, Kenya, Somalia, Central African Republic, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen. Atiku Considers September 24 For Presidential Declaration

Nigeria's former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar has set aside September 24 to formally declare his intention to run for President come 2015 elections.

Atiku will be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

DAILY INDEPENDENT reported that Atiku’s decision to signify his intention to seek election to the nation’s highest political office was reached at a meeting by his aides on Monday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The declaration will make it the fourth time the former vice president has shown interest in becoming President.
